The internet connects people in a way that phones and other forms of non-digital communication do not. I can’t hear stories of someone on the other side of the plane, locate an address in a short space of time and write a letter nor can I get hold of a phone number that easily; it’s not really acceptable to cold-call someone like that and even if you could get a number and you weren’t bothered how it would look phoning out of the blue how would you start the call? ” You don’t know me but….”.
With an email though, or through other internet based communication, and I’m thinking myface and all that, you can locate a way of getting through to them and you can take a chance and fire of a quick “You don’t know me but…” and it’s the done thing. It happens all the time. People start relationships that way now, that’s how acceptable it is. It’s also how I get to ask people called Brian questions. It isn’t hard, especially when there’s a product involved somewhere along the line, seeing as all promotion is good promotion and all that, you just need to see who they work for/ride for and look for a contact button and away you go. The worse thing that happens is you never hear back and when you do you can’t help but think ‘sweet, that was easier than I thought it was going to be’. It helps to remember that bmx isn’t football, I don’t see Mark McGhee getting back to me anytime soon nor do I imagine that his email address is posted for all to see over at the Aberdeen website , and I’m willing to bet that he can’t decide on his favourite sections from last year either, so that keeps it all closer together, though given the small nature of bean production, I’m thinking we’ve got to be in the top six in the UK, behind the leading five, assuming that there are five top baked bean manufacturers, you’d think I’d hear more from Heinz and Branston, even if it was the odd copy of Baked Bean Today through the post. Maybe premierbakedbeanbrand need to get in a union or something. It helps to remember that before you know someone you don’t know them and it all starts with some basic form of hello, be it written or verbally, otherwise you find that the people you don’t know won’t respond and you know no-one…

So. London. It’s a big place, full of people that we don’t know, will never know, and yet someone out there has taken to leaving pianos there for anyone to play in a way that encourages community spirit. More piano playing went down than riding, seeing as everytime we were making our way between spots we’d find another piano. We’ll use the word playing rather loosely but there were no complaints and as the picture shows, it looked okay if nothing else… The riding that happened was inevitably captured by the iphone, partly as the camera bag was locked in a room about 75 miles away and partly because no-one really would of wanted to be carrying it on such a warm night, though there’s hope for moving images with the iphone G3 S now on the market and in peoples pockets…
